In refacing you would be replacing the doors and having the box of the cabinet refinished or a veneer over the existing. The door however is the major expense of the door not the actual box of the cabinet, so you are going to spend quite a bit on just new doors then pay to have the box redone, not changing any components or upgrading your existing cabinets. Also note, that many old houses had cabinets made to fit, they did not use the standard sizes we do today, so many of the doors that are in your current home may not have a match to the new size, now you will have to have custom doors made and you will be well over the cost of replacing just your cabinets.
